Introduction
uBasic has been specially developed for bridge players who want to practice a particular theme or convention. Contracts are being assessed on the entire auction and not only on the right final contract because in these hands it is more important to apply the convention in the correct way than to achieve the correct end result.
To give an example: if East has a 4- or 5-crd major and responds with 3 NT to a 1 NT opening of West, the auction will not be rewarded with stars because East didn’t apply Stayman or Jacoby.
uBasic may well be used by bridge teachers to provide additional exercises on bidding to their students.
Why don’t I get any stars? The contract is right and in the right hand.
In uBasic you only get three stars if you bid exactly according the suggested auction. uBasic has been developed to practice themes and conventions, and you will only be rewarded if you properly apply the particular theme or convention. Reaching the correct contract is not sufficient.
How to set your scope on uBasic?
You can set a theme scopes per partnership. uBid has to know about your partnerships. This information is collected automatically: after you have finished one game with a player, a partnership is stored including the theme scope of that partnership.
The first time the scope is set on uStandard just finish one game with a partner and go to Menu Set Theme scope untap uStandard and tap uBasic and tap done in case of iOS or "send" in case of Android.
